Francesca Hess

actor and writer

Francesca Hess is an actor and writer from Nottingham. She trained as an actor at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, after which she was selected as the Citizens Theatre Graduate Actor of 2022.

She is an alumnus of the Royal Court Writers Group and the inaugural Fifth Word Playwrighting cohort.

Her first play, that face should form another was nominated for the David MacLennan Award, BOLD Playwriting Award, Theatre503 International Playwrighting Award 2025 and is currently being developed with support from Nottingham Playhouse. She is currently working on her next play Fish by Moonlight, an exploration of post-partum psychosis and was recently awarded Innovation Studio and Creative Scotland funding for the development of the piece.

Francesca is also the co-Founder of  I'll Scratch Yours, an event and new work initiative showcasing new writing & performance in Glasgow.
